The Six Senses Samui is by far one of the most stunning properties on the Thai island of Koh Samui. Set in the lush landscapes on the Northern side of the island, Six Senses Samui caters to all senses with their cliffside jungle location and sweeping views of the turquoise sea.
Their villa-only resort offers the perfect combination of elegance and comfort. It is the perfect barefoot luxury escape in this area of Thailand.
I had the pleasure of staying with not one, but two incredible Six Senses properties during my 3 week adventure in Thailand. After staying at their ultra-luxe property on Yao Noi, it was nice to switch a beat and arrive at their effortlessly chic resort on Koh Samui.
Here are 10 reasons why you should stay with Six Senses Samui.
Reason #1: Prime Location
Six Senses Samui has a magical setting on the North side of the island in Bo Put. The resort is a short 10-minute drive from the airport making it a seamless destination after traveling from afar.
With panoramic views of the Siam gulf and neighbouring island, Koh Phangan you are blessed with astounding views of the sparkling coastline.
The resort is situated on a steep cliffside featuring individual hideaway-villas surrounded by lush natural forest. Many villas offer views of the sea, with both sunrise and sunset options.
The region of Bo Put is one of the more up and coming areas of Samui with many trendy hot spots opening in the area. Big Buddha, a main attraction in Samui, is s short drive down the coast. Only 10 minute from the resort.
Reason #2: Their Epic Villas
After completing a huge renovation in 2015, their villas were updated to compliment the eco-chic nature of the resort. With updated floor to ceiling windows mixed with a natural and bright colour palette, the villas are generously spacious, modern and fresh.
Six Senses Samui has 66 private villas, many offering views of the sea. 59 of the 66 villas come with a private plunge pool so you’ll never have to leave your villa.
Whether you prefer rise early to watch the sunrise or relax while watching the sun go down , at Six Senses Samui you can take your pick.
Reason #3: Most Sustainable Resort on the Island
Six Senses Hotels are always top of their class for their sustainability and eco-friendly practices. All Six Senses resorts globally bottle their own water and substantially reduce their plastic waste. They also do their best to ethically source any consumable brought into their resort.
Six Senses Samui is a leader on the island for their sustainability efforts and generous contributions to the local community. If eco-friendly travel is important to you, Six Senses Samui will help to make you feel better about your global footprint.
Reason #4: Ultimate Beach Access
Because of their prime peninsula location and being built next to a calm bay, the stretch of beach at Six Senses Samui is wonderful. Being built on the cliffside means you will have to travel down some stairs, however that’s certainly better than having to leave the resort for some quality beach time.
The beach is very private with many chairs along the sand for lounging. Because it is in the bay, the water is super calm and crystal clear. You can see plenty of fish right off the coast making it perfect for snorkelers or divers. If you love the water and rising early, you can also enjoy their guided kayak tour to the neighbouring island Koh Som.
Reason #5: Dining on the Rocks
Dining on the Rocks offers a unique farm-to-table dining experience with stunning views of the ocean.
Known for being one of the top restaurants on the island, they certainly show you why with their delicious menu options and killer views. Many of the ingredients used in their dishes come straight from their farm, a 10 minute walk from the restaurant. It doesn’t get fresher than that.
Paired with incredible dining they also have an extensive wine list for curated pairings with each dish. Serving a fusion style menu mix with some Thai favorites, Dining on the Rocks is certainly worth the visit to Six Senses Koh Samui.
Whether you are a guest of the resort or not, definitely don’t missing an evening at Dining-on-the-Rocks.
Reason #6 Sunrise AND Sunset views
With their prime peninsula location you get both sunrise and sunset views. And they are epic!
Being an early riser, I truly enjoyed my villa with direct view to the sunrise. It was a sight worth the morning wake up call. Seeing the sun rise over the sea, for me, is the perfect way to start the day.
To watch the sunset, I would make my way down to their pool terrace. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy a cool cocktail while watching the sun go down.
If waking up for the sunrise if not your thing, not to worry, you can request a villa with a direct sunset view instead. This is one of the only places I have been in where you can have the best of both worlds.
Reason #7 Chilled Out Vibes
Like all Six Senses resorts, they truly cater to those seeking a barefoot luxury escape. The kind of luxury resort that is upscale and refined while being completely relaxed at the same time. This means you can travel in comfort, wearing your resort linens and bare feet from day to night.
With sustainability and wellness being the main theme at the resort, the resort tips its hat to the natural surroundings of the island. This means relaxed, open-concept dining, bars and amenities that incorporate elements of nature.
Being on island time here means rejuvenating the mind, body and soul. Many of the resorts programs and experiences is curated around wellness and relaxation. They offer many activities from daily meditation, yoga and tai chi classes to enjoying nightly movies under the stars. All activities encompass their dedication to holistic wellness and natural beauty of the island.
To really zen out at Six Senses Samui, a visit to the spa will do the trick. They have a number of treatments available to compliment your full wellness journey during your stay. Treatments are offered inside your own private spa villa or outdoors among nature under their spa salas.
Reason #8 Farm-to-Table Experience
Farm-on-the-Hill was opened after the renovation in 2016 and operates as the largest Six Senses farm across the world. The farm makes a strong statement for the sustainable initiatives and eco-friendly practices carried out by the Six Senses brand.
Farm-on-the-Hill is home almost 20 goats, used only for their dairy and almost 100 chicken producing fresh eggs for resort consumption. The farm also grows local vegetation in their nutrient-rich soil providing the freshest ingredients to the resort chefs.
Guests are able to visit the farm to interact with the animals or collect daily eggs for breakfast. The farm is a fantastic learning experience for children and also sets an example for the Samui community and other resorts to follow.
Reason #9 Their Massive Infinity Pool
I love infinity pools! Nothing is better than wading in a pool with a view to enjoy a sunny day. The pool at Six Senses Samui is enormous. Not to mention it is the best spot to watch the sun go down over the horizon.
It is the perfect place to hang out for the day (if you manage to leave your villa) and enjoy the sweeping views and friendly service.
Reason #10 They Were the First Six Senses to Open Their Doors
Six Senses Samui is where it all began for Six Senses. Originally opening their doors in 2004, this 15 year old property set the stage for the Six Senses brand around the world and continues to be one of the most popular for travellers.
Being a lover of the brand, I enjoyed visiting Six Senses Samui and seeing where it all began for one of my favorite hotel chains. While you will find similarities and the sustainable heart of the brand in all properties, Samui felt like the big brother where examples have been created and set.
With Six Senses rapidly expanding across the globe and even making their North American debut in New York City’s Chelsea district in 2020, it was truly nice to see where it all began.
Thank you Six Senses Samui!
