If you are heading to Dubai and you are looking for luxury accommodations in the perfect location, boasting the best views of the downtown skyline, you must stay with Shangri-La Dubai.
Upon arrival I was immediately in awe with the dramatic entrance way and vast open air concept lobby. I was fortunate enough to have traveled during the Chinese New Year, and being a China-based hotel, the lobby was beautifully decorated for the exciting festivities of the Year of the Dog. We were checked into a king suite with direct downtown view of the Burj Khalifa. Since we arrived after sundown, we got to enjoy the beautiful city lit up at night and although this was my 4th trip to Dubai, this view was nothing like I had seen before. As soon as I pulled open the curtains, I was in awe and we sat and watched the city sky transform from sundown to night.
Apart from the fantastic view, the suite was well appointed and beautifully decorated with Arabic charm and a warm palette. We were welcomed with a fresh fruit bowl upon arrival and the staff replenished our supply daily – such a nice touch. The room was large with a separate areas for lounging and the bathroom was dripped in marble and gold. There is something about the Shangri-La beds that make them one of the most comfortable in the world. (see a room tour here)
The next morning we woke up early to check out the hotel and amenities in daylight. The first course of action was to get up to the rooftop terrace on the 42nd Level to take in the city view at sunrise. To our pleasant surprise, we also found a pool at this level with incredible views overlooking the Burj Khalifa. The 42nd level terrace is one of the only open air balconies in Dubai with striking views, making it a photographers dream!
It was a gorgeous day, as always in Dubai, so once we made our way back downstairs, we decided to hang out by the pool. The pool deck on the 4th floor also has stunning views of the Burj and is home to the night time bar, ikandy. This ultralounge is the perfect place to enjoy some evening cocktails and shisha by the pool with the incredible night views of downtown.
In addition to ikandy, the hotel has a broad selection of dining options including one of the top Asian restaurants in Dubai. Among the options we decided to book a dinner at Hoi An, which offers modern Vietnamese cuisine. We were blown away by the authentic flavours and unique dishes. We shared several plates and thoroughly enjoyed their Vietnamese Pho, it was definitely the best I have ever tasted in my life. In addition to the great food, there was of course great service. Hoi An had the friendliest waitstaff who made the experience much more memorable.
Overall I had such a fantastic stay with Shangri-La Dubai. The location was great and provided easy access to many of Dubai’s main attractions. Staying with Shangri-La always guarantees a luxurious and comfortable stay and their Dubai address was no exception. With so many accommodation options in Dubai, it is hard to choose one but the Shangri-la is definitely among the best. I hope you choose to stay here on your vacation to the magical city of Dubai.
