Visiting Los Cabos
Mexico will always have a special place in my heart. Having visited more times that I can count and being married there almost 4 years ago, it is a place I can visit again and again. Having mostly frequented their Caribbean coast on many past trips, I decided to switch it up and visit Los Cabos on the Western Coast.
Los Cabos is located on the Southern most tip of the Baja California Peninsula. The tropical desert sparkles with its golden rocky terrain and abundant cacti strewn against the stunning blue sea. With one visit to this region you will quickly realize why Los Cabos is considered the gem of Mexico.
Being a popular tourist region, there are many direct flight options offered from both the US and Canada.
After flying into San José del Cabo via Mexico City, we quickly arrived to our final destination nestled on the beach: the Montage Los Cabos.
Montage Los Cabos
On the glistening coast tucked into one of the most pristine beaches in the area, you will find the stunning resort – Montage Los Cabos.
Being one of the newest properties in the area, having just opened a year ago, Montage Los Cabos is ultra-luxe leaving no detail to be desired. The resort is located on the calm coast of Santa Maria Bay. The bay is known to have the calmest waters in the region and is the primary spot for boasters and snorkelers to frequent in the area.
Although located in the baron desert, the resort landscape couldn’t be more lush. It feels like you are in a hidden oasis with the greenest grass and desert flower gardens indigenous to the sub-tropic region. Mixed among the natural architecture of mostly wood and stone resort, the Montage Los Cabos couldn’t be more idyllic.
Desert-Chic Accommodations
The rooms and suites at Montage Los Cabos are abundantly spacious with interior decor matching the natural desert landscapes. Many rooms come with sizeable indoor and outdoor space, boasting views of the stunning ocean or the costal golden backdrop. Room sizes are available up to 2-bedrooms with residences offering 3-bedrooms+ accommodating up to 14 people.
The room buildings are all low-rise with no more than 4 rooms per building. Although there are over 100 rooms on-site, the resort layout provides privacy and upholds an intimate feel, even when operating at full capacity.
For families traveling with young children, there are many rooms offering direct walk out to the pool and beach areas.
Luxurious Amenities
Infinity Pools
It couldn’t be easier to laze away under the desert sun than it is at this perfect resort. With layers of infinity pools overlooking the breathtaking Sea of Cortez, there isn’t a bad spot to post up for the day. The pool chairs are abundant and the ambient music playing throughout totally puts you in the relaxation zone.
If you desire more privacy by the pool, there are several cabanas available to reserve for the day.
Poolside service is offered throughout the day allowing you to spend endless pampered hours under the sun. You will also be treated to yummy snacks and cold popsicles throughout the day to keep your palate satisfied.
Opulent Spa
The spa at Montage Los Cabos is in a league of its own. Nestled in its own private area of the resort, the facility is the perfect sanctuary to spend a relaxing day within the resort. Greeted by a grand entrance way, you enter the vast indoor and outdoor space with everything you need to unwind. The pool area is enormous with a co-ed lounging area. Surrounding the perimeter of the pool are the relaxing treatment rooms with male and female change rooms off to each side.
Inside the change rooms is another sanctuary of its own. With ample lounging space and hot and cold plunge pools, you can enjoy the relaxing environment while sipping on soothing tea as you unwind. The spa has a variety of products for guests to enjoy for both men and women. My husband was thrilled to see an amazing selection of Jack Black skin care and took the time to pamper himself during our visit.
We enjoyed a lovely couples massage in a spacious suite next to the pool. The therapists were very accommodating with wonderful attention to detail. Being pregnant it was the first massage I had in a while that was able to accommodate my growing belly with a special pillow they had ready for us in the room.
Following the morning treatment, we spend the remainder of the day at the spa pool. It is the perfect spot to enjoy a healthy lunch and cold drinks in their cabanas while dipping in and out of the refreshing pool. A visit to the spa here can easily turn in to a fill day affair. It will surely leave you feeling totally relaxed and rejuvenated – just what vacations are meant for 🙂
Dining at the Montage
We were astounded by the incredible dining within the resort. There are two fabulous restaurants to choose from. Marea, which is their open-concept outdoor dining next to the beach and Mezcal, their more upscale dining experience.
Marea by Day serves breakfast to start carried into their lunch menu featuring fresh and local options. with a selection of ceviches, tacos, salads and much more you can enjoy wonderful dining with views of the sea. In addition to their delicious food menu, they have a fantastic cocktail menu with an extensive selection of local tequilas and mezcals. I didn’t get to enjoy the variety but my husband assured me it was fantastic, as he was drinking for two 😉
Marea by Night has a change of menu into a more formal dining experience. The ambience at night is wonderful with a live music and views of the moonlit sea. The menu adapts to offer a selection of delicious meats and aged beef as well as locally caught seafood.
Mezcal, the signature kitchen lead by Chef Alexis Palacios, offers a modern take on traditional Mexican cuisine. Their tasting menu is out of this world with flavours and presentations deserving of a Michelin-star. Being more tucked into the resort, you get to enjoy the quiet of the desert night and have an intimate experience with your travel companion(s).
Resort by Night
There is truly something magical about the desert when the sun goes down. As the sun sets the sky transforms into layers of colours as the moon begins to peak over the golden backdrop. For the first time, I truly enjoyed watching the moon come up over the sun going down over the horizon. This resort truly lights up at night.
Surrounding the pool are trees decorated in sparkly light with dramatic fire rings lit throughout. During my time there we were fortunate enough to experience a gigantic Blue Moon and enjoyed sitting in their cozy fire circle as the moon came up over the hillside.
Photos simply cannot give justice to the magic of Montage Los Cabos at dusk.
Truly a Home-Away-From-Home Experience
Being my first experience with the mostly US-based luxury brand, I was blown away by their service, property and attention to every detail. After such a wonderful stay with Montage Los Cabos, I am already looking into their other properties with Hawaii being high on the list.
I was beyond impressed by their impeccable service and the special treatment we received during out stay. Being 6.5 months pregnant on my visit, the staff went the extra mile to make us feel comfortable as if we were in our home-away-from-home. And even though it was our first visit, it truly did feel like home.
While a lot of hotels claim to offer 5-star luxury and service, I can confidently say that Montage is a true 5-star and among the most luxurious resorts in Mexico.
I look forward to another visit in the near future, next time with the little one ????
Thank you Montage Los Cabos for an unforgettable stay!

Hey there just wanted to give you a quick heads up.
The words in your article seem to be running off
the screen in Chrome. I’m not sure if this is a formatting
issue or something to do with browser compatibility but I figured I’d
post to let you know. The style and design look great though!
Hope you get the issue solved soon. Kudos
