Four Seasons Costa Rica
The Four Seasons Costa Rica on the Papagayo Peninsula certainly makes the top of the list for the most luxurious hotel in Central America. Located on the most coveted piece of land on Costa Rica’s Guanacaste coast, the Four Seasons experience is unparalleled when it comes to opulence, service and sophistication. If their prime location wasn’t enough, the Four Seasons recently outdid themselves with a sleek renovation totalling $35M in 2017.
After a short but sweet visit here in 2018, I just had to make a return back. The Four Seasons Costa Rica embodies the rich and natural culture of Costa Rica paired with the exquisite design they are best known for. My visit to the Four Seasons was the last leg of my wellness month in Costa Rica. It certainly put the icing on the cake for a truly unforgettable vacation yet again!
The Resort
Being on the tip of the peninsula, the Four Seasons Costa Rica is nestled between two pristine, white sand beaches and surrounded by lush forests. The resorts architecture tips it hat to the surrounding elements and is designed with natural elements in mind. The entire space is open concept with wooden detail and a natural palette throughout. From almost anywhere on the property you can catch a glimpse of the endless sea.
During the major renovation, there was also significant renovations to their rooms and villas. Each room boasts a view of the sea and has been updated with the most luxurious finishes. With their marble bathrooms and most comfortable beds, you are sure to have a cozy stay.
In terms of activities, there are endless options to enjoy during your stay. Four Seasons provides a daily schedule of activities including water sports, cooking and mixology classes, yoga, chocolate tastings etc.. Some are even complimentary for you to enjoy. If venturing off the resort, there are plenty of options within the peninsula to keep active. They offer wildlife walks, biking tours, tennis and 18-hole golf at their Arnold Palmer golf course, just to name a few.
During my most recent stay, I was mostly fixated on their updated wellness offerings at the spa and throughout the resort. Being the beginning of a new year, I was motivated to kick it off active and healthy habits.
Wellness Journey & The Spa
Since my last visit, there have been several great changes to the spa. Inspired by the bio-diverse lands of Costa Rica, the spa offers treatments to purify the body and mind. They have begun to incorporate Ayurvedic traditions into their treatments and personalize sessions that are specific to your health and wellness needs.
The wellness journey is carried seamlessly throughout the resort and your stay. The Four Seasons offers meditation sessions on the beach, yoga classes surrounded by nature and cooking classes focused on a healthy and balanced diet.
Dining at Four Seasons Costa Rica
Dining on the resort is wonderful and the selections are plentiful. There are 4 restaurants to choose from throughout the day, all offering a distinct and tasty menu options. Throughout the day, you also have the option of ordering delicious meals to the beach, to the pool and of course, to your room.
Bahia – the main open-air restaurant for breakfast lunch and dinner. Bahia offers a healthy and hearty breakfast selection as well as afternoon bites. For dinner, Bahia uses its wood-fire grill to prepare excellent dishes, including fresh local seafood options.
Añejo – located in the centre of the hotel, Añejo is a light snack bar by day with tapas and cocktails by night. Anejo is the liveliest of the 4 restaurants at night featuring a local DJ to create the perfect ambience.
Pesce – right next to Anejo, is the more upscale of the 3 on the immediate resort. They serve classic Italian foods with fresh pasta and local seafoods. Their dishes are compliments by their extensive wine list.
Nemare – Last but not least, my favourite of them all, Nemare. Nemare is located ~7 minutes off the primary resort at the Four Seasons Clubhouse. The restaurant is new concept mixing a traditional American steakhouse with a Latin Chophouse. They serve a selection of American beef along side their local Costa Rican cattle. The dinner is fantastic and the service impeccable. The restaurant overlooks the golf greens and is perfect for a romantic dinner under the stars. Nemare was hands down the best dinner I had during my month in Costa Rica.
Wonderful Stay
As expected, I had another wonderful stay with the Four Seasons Costa Rica. I cannot recommend staying with FS more highly if visiting the Papagayo Peninsula. Vacationing with FS gives you the perfect balance of a pampered holiday with the experience of the local culture and surrounding adventures. Being only 20 minutes from the Libera airport, it is the perfect spot for a quick weekend getaway or an extended vacation to relax and unwind in the Pura Vida paradise of Costa Rica.
